A toll free number, as the name suggests is a telephone number using which one can call the caller free of cost. The recipient pays for the cost of the call that we have made and hence it’s toll free for us and not for the caller. This is also referred to as ‘1800’ numbers.
Now a day it is becoming more popular because consumers love to make a free call especially long distance calls which are in general costly in any other case. Companies got attracted because of their portability and creation of national presence. One can call from any corner of the nation to their service provider or Customer care Center. Another reason for their popularity is that they have dropped so dramatically in price and ease of use. When they were first introduced they were quite expensive and hard to get. But now they are so cheap and very simple setup process.
A toll free number just forwards to or rings to any regular local number, kind of a remote call forwarded number. No special equipment or additional line or installation is required. All the features (i.e. Caller ID, Call Forwarding, Voicemail, rollovers etc) on the local line, work the same as if the caller had dialed a local number.
